 Parish Groups

As well as being an historic building which dates back to the early Christchurch settlement, this church is also the place where a lively Christian community of all ages meets regularly for services and other activities. Some of the things that take place here include the following.

  • Book Discussion Groups - friendly day and evening groups for men and women of all ages. The group members read a new book each month as part of the WEA Book Discussion Scheme, and then meet over refreshments to talk about the book and our reactions to it. Group numbers are limited but there are often vacancies so check with the Parish Office.
  • Care of the grounds - practical planning and work to maintain this historic church and cemetery for present and future generations is an important part of parish life.
  • The Christian Formation group -  The Christian Formation group studies the Bible by considering the Scripture readings for the forthcoming Sunday, aided by a presentation drawn from commentaries as prepared by a group member.  The group members then take it in turns to share an account of God's dealings with them since they last met. They then spend half an hour waiting on God in silent prayer.
Discerning the will of God for each group member in the affairs of daily living is what this group is all about.
For further information please contact the Vicar.
  • The Choir - A small group of singers provides music on special occasions and on selected Sundays. Practices are held either on a Thursday evening or Sunday morning before the liturgy, depending on the music being prepared. .
  • Wednesday Cafe - lunchtime gatherings for senior citizens. Once a month lunchtime gatherings are held in the hall and these include a talk on some aspect of health followed by a light lunch in good company. All are welcome.
  • Women's Groups - there are two groups meeting; an AAW (Anglican Association of Women) group meets in the daytime, and a Friendship Group meets in the evenings. Women meeting to share their faith, their lives and to encourage one another in their Christian journey.
  • Friday Study Group - This group meets for Bible Study and Prayer with morning tea on Friday mornings.

If you would like further information about any of the groups listed above, then please contact the Parish Office.
